Paid zombie survival experience

Fever Cabin is a premium action game from Justin Foley, described as a cross between Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Zombies Chronicles and Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF). Trapped in the titular cabin, you must survive a series of nights as a horde of undead starts crashing on your door. Starting out with a handgun and a flashlight, you must make sure that no weak spot remains unprotected.

With light puzzle elements and the sound effects playing an integral role in the gameplay, Fever Cabin is a challenging and effective horror game—one that doesn’t follow traditional difficulty scaling patterns.

A different cabin fever experience

The title Fever Cabin seems to be a deliberate play on cabin fever, which refers to a set of distress-related symptoms coming from being isolated or locked in a place at a time. As the condition differs depending on the person, so does this game. By randomizing game elements, you can experience a smooth and easy game or get rushed by zombies at the start and dooming you immediately.

As mentioned, you start out with just a handgun and a flashlight. This makes the game additionally challenging and keeps it streamlined. It’s important to recognize that in this game, you’re not necessarily tasked with keeping zombies out. With the size of the base and the limited lighting available, there will be instances where enemies will set foot inside. It’s up to you to keep pathways and options open.

Of course, there are restrictions, which is still commendable since this is a one-person project. The zombie designs are generic like they’re from The House of the Dead. In terms of set design, the lighting makes good work of concealing the limitations in texture and design, keeping the game scary throughout. An entire playthrough, with a good ending, can be done in less than an hour.

A good FNAF FPS

If you’re wondering about what FNAF would be like if you can take matters into your own hands, Fever Cabin offers a possible answer. With limited space you need to defend and walk around on, it creates a dynamic defense experience. The game even manages to use certain horror and FPS elements to mask game limitations. It is ingenious as it is challenging. Recommended.

PROS

  • Randomized elements create replayability
  • Defending the house involves strategy and puzzle elements

CONS

  • Chances of unbeatable first night
  • Short playthrough
